Iranian human rights lawyer and Sakharov Prize winner Nasrin Sotoudeh was held for three years in Evin prison and was on hunger strike on four occasions, the longest for forty nine days. In an interview with Lara Marlowe in the Irish Times she writes of the influence of Bobby Sands and the Irish hunger strikers and of how the Ministry of Culture censored and removed her introduction to a translation of the writings of Bobby Sands. Despite a ban on her leaving Iran, Nasrin continues to campaign for fair trials and an end to capital punishment.
